There has been at least one instance where upon logging into a Daktronics ticker, the heartbeat file was missing from the NUC and the Ticker was not showing content. The solution to this issue is to add the Heartbeat file back to the Daktronics ticker, in the proper location and then update the Heartbeat file with the correct information.
Verify that the Heartbeat file is in fact missing. Navigate to /usr/riseticker/data You should see something very similar to this:
You see there are 4 different config files in this folder. If any are missing in addition to the Heartbeat file, you will want to replace each of them as well. To do this, simply connect to another Daktronics ticker. You can search the ticker configuration spreadsheet for “Daktronics” to find any number of Daktronics Tickers and then find them in Screenconnect. On the ticker that is working properly, you can utilize Screenconnect’s File Transfer tool to copy those files on to your computer and then onto the target Ticker.
Once you have received the files from the Daktronics ticker that is working properly and sent them to the ticker where the files were missing, move those files to the /usr/riseticker/data folder.
Now that you have corrected the issue of files missing, you have one last step to complete. Update the new heartbeat file so that it reflects correctly. You can get this information from the ticker configuration spreadsheet. You will need to know the tickers Display ID, Ticker Height and Number of Colors (with Daktronics, it can only be Tri Color or Full Color (8 color). Open the Heartbeat.xml file on the affected ticker in an editor. One way of doing this is with the command ‘sudo gedit /usr/riseticker/data/heartbeat.xml in a terminal window. Update the Heartbeat file with the correct information.
Update the ticker id to the correct Display ID. Update height to correct Ticker height and update the color to “2” for tri-color Daktronics Tickers and “3” for Daktronics 8 color Tickers. Depth will remain “1” for both tri-color and 8 color Daktronics Tickers.
Once you have updated the information in the Heartbeat file, save and close the document and reboot the Ticker NUC. You are done.
