Trouble with PC Stick Win 10

    We have both Stick and Display connected to the same power strip with On/Off button. Flipping the switch restarts both.

    Resolution change indicates that Stick came back up fine, but the display did not. At least this is what we have seen here. There is some problem in communication between that stick and TV... might be just HDMI cable, could be also TV.

    Stick losing connection does not mean that there is something wrong with that stick. Most likely it is some network problem. Especially when they hook up fine on a different network. I would start troubleshooting with simple things like cables. Then would look into switches and routers.

    Thanks for reporting this to us. I would like to echo Darius' statements with regard to checking network configurations. For example, if you are using a static IP configuration on one network connection, but move the Compute Stick to another connection, the network settings might be different, which would cause connectivity trouble. Additionally, I would acquire a different USB to Ethernet adapter to see if you have the same problem. It is possible the adapter you have has degraded and is beginning to fail. 

    With the shut down issue, I would suggest changing what the power button does on the Compute Stick in Windows to shut down when pressed. This would give the individual using the Compute Stick to shut the machine down without a keyboard. Additionally, Intel has released a remote keyboard app you can use on your phone to control the system. Information about that is available here

    The seemingly random changing of a display resolution in Windows 7 and 10 is exceedingly common, unfortunately. Microsoft has implemented various tools you can use to help avoid these changes, however. I would check with Intel.com for updated drivers for the video card in the Compute Stick. Here is a link to the new driver list on Intel's website. Ensure you double check which version of the Compute Stick you have before downloading a driver to ensure you install the proper drivers.

    So what is the answer to the Static IP going to another style connection? I'll check the driver updates and switch USB adapters. Thanks

    Hello Jim,

    Thanks for your reply. Typically Static IP configurations are set per interface, meaning a Static IP set on a Ethernet connection will not also be replicated to a WiFi Connection. If your network requires a specific configuration that requires a Static IP be used on 1 type of interface (Such as your Ethernet to USB), that Static IP will not transfer to WiFi when the USB to Ethernet is disconnected. 

    Both interfaces would need to be configured with the same information to create a fail-over style connection. 

    Please let us know what you find with the driver updates and a different USB to Ethernet adapter.

    I found the driver with your links Thanks. and I have changed out the USB adapter. More things to set up when they say its plug and play.....NOT Anyway thanks for the help.
