    Will everything stop playing or is it simply not supported.  i.e. do I need to upgrade/swap out any players that don't have "RisePlayerElectron"?

    Great point Larry! I updated the above post to include that this will not affect Cenique Devices or Android devices running the Scotts Digital Signage "My Rise Player" App. So no worries, your devices are in good shape :)

    Robb, while we're on the subject of Windows and Linux Players for general community knowledge not a specific question:

    Is there a point in the future where Rise possibly won't support 32 bit Windows or Linux players?

    Should we consider 32 and 64 bit Players as equals or are there any decision points for 32 bit or 64 bit on new players where hardware allows  a choice? Example, one version has generally fewer bugs or better performance issues, or is better tested at Rise?

    There's nothing specific right now in regards to dropping support for 32 Bit Windows or Linux Players, but in reality, due to the limits of 32 Bit OS', a 64 bit is the way to go.

    One of the best examples of them not being equal is that 32 Bit OS' can only go up to 3.6 GB's of memory, where a 64 Bit OS box can go up to 64 GB's of memory. That's a lot more memory that more memory intensive content in your Presentation can use! 

    Most computers that you would use as a Media Player today are more focused on the 64 bit architecture, so my recommendation would be to go to the 64 Bit route.

    We test on both 32 and 64 bit, but you're going to get the best bang for your buck with 64 bit.

    If I remember correctly - the Rise Player Electron will NOT run on Win XP, correct?
    Also, I don't remember if it runs on Win 7?

    I think we all knew this was coming at some point- so if we have an older client running XP machines, then they are going to need to upgrade their hardware by September.

    No, it will not run on XP, mainly due to the age of XP. It sure does run on Windows 7, and we will be supporting Windows 7 until Jan 31 of 2018.

    What about the Chrome player app that we run on the managed Chromeboxes?  Will that be affected?
    I am running the new Chrome player app on some of my Chromeboxes and the older app on some as well. (The older one is still working fine, so I have not done the update on all of my Chromeboxes yet.)

    Hey @Robb, I think we still have quite a few players running the legacy version of Rise.  Out of curiousity, is there any faster way to upgrade them to the new electron?  Or does it need to be manually removed, and the new version manually installed?

    If anyone else has a quicker method, I appreciate any advice!

    Alex,

    There should be no reason to uninstall the legacy version, and it may make things a bit easier if you leave it installed, as it will have that existing Display ID, and you won't have to type it back in again. Any shortcuts or updates that you have added manually to files in the rvplayer will have to be removed, but you should be able to install over the older version without issue. The only caveat is the update will have to be done manually on the device, and moving forward, all updates to the Player will occur automatically.
