I do not have experience with Ubuntu players, but I believe player app gets updates automatically. It may have been shipped with an older version, but after a reboot or two, it should be up to date.

    Thanks for your feedback Darius.

Anyone have more info on this and how to resolve this issue?  I have several more NUCs to deploy and we bought all from the RiseVision Store.  Why is the RV app not supported or out of date?  Not sure why RV is selling the player with an out out date RV app.  - Thanks

    Dear Paul,

You are executing 2 commands. First  chmod +x installer-lnx-64.sh and after having set the execute flag for this file run ./installer-lnx-64.sh

I am very interested in your outcome, as I've been running the player on Ubuntu installations for quite some time. With a brand new install last week as you describe, only running 16.04.3 with the latest version of the player I end up with a dashboard that's missing IP Address, Operating System and version info. To make things even worse, both buttons (restart, reboot) and grayed out.

    Regards,

    Sander.

It appears that a trivial part of the player is being rejected to connect to /tmp/app.lms
My assumption is that two way communication is affected by it.

For those of you who are into coding please see below:

    Hi Sander.

so I am getting back to this issue...I am running Ubuntu 16.4 LTS on the NUC.  From your first post, I did run your command line and it did kick off fine.  It gave me acknowledgements that it ran fine.  I then rebooted my NUC.  Same problem as you, no IP, no version number, grey out reboot/restart.  So downloading and running the latest RV did not resolve my issue.

Referencing your second post...what is 'rejected to connect to /tmp/app.lms'?  What is app.lms?  Is that outside the local network or is that a local service? Your edits...is that in a local file I can edit?

    Thanks so much.

    Hello Paul,

First of all, let me say that I am happy you can reproduce this error. Looks like the guys here at Rise need to dig into that ;) My second post is actually a capture of the console when you fire an initial start of the player. So when you start the player from the xterm in X. So that is when the system is normally running on the local network but has complete access to the internet. My guess is that the application itself is malfunctioning while trying to connect to a socket via /tmp/app.lms. So it's nothing you and I can do about. So in sum, nothing to edit for you or myself. Looks like nobody actually tested the new player on 16.04.... We'll probably have to wait a little.

    Regards,

    Sander.

    Hi Sander.
Since we bought these via RV Store, we need to put in a ticket with RV support.  I did this last time on another issue even though I did not have a support contract and they knew they were at fault and were nice enough to resolve my issue without any cost to me.  I do not have a great grasp of this technical issue.  Do you mind putting in a support ticket and keeping us informed?  If I understood this Linux issue clearly, I would just do it myself.  I have found their support group to be pretty good.  Thoughts?

    Hi Sander.
RV tech support fixed this issue.  I will post the email I got from them with the fix here.  Try it and post back.  Curious if it works for you.  Fixed my one player.  I have to apply it to other players.

From Tyler - RV Tech Support:  Fixed the issue by removing the rvplayer directory located in /home/rise/rvplayer. I then reinstalled RV app again. Reboot and wait a little time.  The control panel will now show everything.  You may get a warning, but it will still work.  The device is now showing on our servers, but we are still seeing the "player version not current" warning. We are looking into this warning.  Beside the small error, everything works.

    1. Delete the /home/rise/rvplayer directory
    2. Download fresh installer from our website for ubuntu 64 bit
    3. Install with fresh installer.

Tyler also stated:  I am going to check into our 16.04 image and make sure the issue is not showing up on all of our images, and if it is, I'll fix it.
