Recently we purchased a new device for upcoming installation. We decided to give a try to Azulle Byte 3 https://www.amazon.com/Byte3-Fanless-Win-Pro-Mini/dp/B076CC93FP/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1515435036&sr=8-1&keywords=azulle+byte+3 . It is a quad-core, 4GB RAM device and comes with Windows 10 Pro, a bunch of USB ports (2 and 3), WiFi antenna and is capable of supporting dual-display setup. Also comes with some sort of remote controller, but it was not a deal breaker for us.
I have been testing it for the last 3 weeks.I can say it is a rather reliable device for basic digital signage applications. We are planning to run on in simple Google Sheet presentation with 3 to 5 image slideshow. tested this setup already and the player CPU utilization did not go over 5% with occasional spikes. Temps (it is a fanless device) stayed around comfy 40C degrees.
It does work in dual-display setup (HDMI+VGA) and would be more than adequate for simple menu boards.
I also tried throwing a heavier stuff at it. All I can say it could run a single video stream, where CPU utilization was anywhere between 45% and 75% with occasional spikes.
It is not capable of supporting complex GIF animations (animations with a lot of frames) and especially multiple GIF animations. In such setup + 1 video stream the CPU utilization went to 85-100% and temps spiked to 85-90C degrees causing the player to throttle.
All in all, I am very happy with it. It has met all of our expectations and is a really good alternative to stick type devices. It even saved us some time & money by replacing Intel NUCs for simple DS applications.
