It has been nearly two years since we announced that Flash is no longer supported. We are following up today to announce that we are taking the final step to completely deprecate Flash on Rise Vision.
Why is Flash being deprecated?
Flash is no longer considered a reliable technology for building content. Major software organizations such as Google and Microsoft have already deprecated Flash in their respective browsers, and the creator of Flash, Adobe, announced plans to discontinue maintaining it.
Given the above, and the significant reduction in Flash usage, we are simplifying the Rise Player code base by removing the code associated with Flash playback.
Rise Player will not be capable of rendering Flash content after this update.
When will Flash will be deprecated from Rise Player?
This change is scheduled to be released August 27th, 2018.
What do I do going forward?
Always use the new Editor, https://editor.risevision.com, for creating your content. When you open a Presentation in the new Editor, and if your Presentation is using Deprecated Items, you will be presented with a disclaimer letting you know. You should eliminate the use of all Deprecated Items, but specific to Flash, look for any use of the Video Item or Flash Gadget.
If you are using the Video Item use the Video Widget instead - check out this article to learn how, but please note videos formatted as .MOV or .FLV, need to be encoded as MP4 or WebM. If you are using the Flash Gadget, you’ll need to rebuild the respective content in HTML5, or remove it from your Presentation, before the the August rollout.
If you are using the Web Page Widget, or HTML Widget, you should review the content you’ve configured the Widget to show as it could be Flash. If you’re not sure, contact the creator of the web page and ask them to confirm.
