Kyle, No way! If you're paying for Displays, they're going to stay on your account. You simply need to add those available licenses to any Free Displays you have that are showing Templates or Presentation and you'll be good to go.

Looks like they need to update their pricing page. It still advertises a free service.

Also how does a screen display anything that doesn't have a schedule attached to it?

    Travis,

Curious which URL you see this at. https://www.risevision.com/pricing is our official pricing page, am I overlooking something?

    Travis,

The free service will allow you to show content hosted outside of Rise Storage via the Schedule's URL item option:

    Does that help to clarify?

    Nate,

There are no plans at this time to remove the free tier as described here: https://www.risevision.com/free-digital-signage

    Thanks!

    Hi Bernard,

You will still be able to add Free Displays. Free Displays have the ability to show Scheduled URLs only. Scheduled Presentations (Templates, Presentations built from Templates or Blank), will show only on Licensed Displays.

Rob, yes that helps (sorta). I found it it shortly after posting. Got all my content transferred over to URL's. Is there any way to avoid the caching of URL's?

My problem specifically; I have a web page with a graphic and a JavaScript that displays the current time. It works but the time never updates on subsequent page displays. Since it's Javascript, it should be different on every load even if the page is cached.

    Hi Travis,

I discussed this with development this morning. Have you implemented a page refresh on your url? This can't be done through the Schedules Application, you'll need to implement it in your page's HTML.

Thanks Blake, That's what I ended up doing. Only bad thing is when it does a refresh when displayed.

Are you aware how long the URL is cached? Is it until the player is restarted?

    Travis,

The cache for the schedule doesn't expire, and the player doesn't reset the service worker, cache api, or local storage caches.

    Hello Bernard,

Copying the HTML of a presentation in Rise Editor to your own hosting solution would not work, as it would still technically be pulling data from our servers and using our widget code when it was loaded on a display, so it would require a license.

    Paul,

Embedded Presentations give the ability to take a Presentation, and embed it into another. For example, if you had a Sub Company that wanted to manage the embedded Presentation, you could add that into your Presentation in the Parent Company.

This way the overall Presentation belongs to your Parent Company, while the embedded Presentation and all content therein belongs and is managed by the Sub Company.

Darius, given our focus on Education users, that is the reason for the majority of templates being education related :)

    Thanks!

About this price change. Our aproach will be that we try a couple of other software.

The fact that most of our clients have static pages leads us to several choices.

Also our past struggles with some coding and rotation issues in Rise plus our problems with offline errors make us feal no fear to struggle a bit with a new system. And the fact that we could get Android support.

I don't think we will end up here again, maybe if there was a great reseller bonus or something. As a end user it could ofcourse still work maybe even without Android support.

    Hi users,

RV's changes over the years have created adventures for all of us.

Sounds like a number of y'all will be looking for alternatives.  I had posted a while back about trying to make a white label wrapper around the RV interface.  I've got a better news update.

My college guy never completed that project, and with RV dropping support for the credential tools w decided to give up.

I hired a team to help me build a signage application that's web-based and will run through browser links.  They should have something ready for beta testing soon. We'll have white-label capability, and will have a kiosk option to have it run unattended on windows and android platforms.

Would any of you be interested in beta testing the product, and if you like it we can set you up with subscriptions.  We're moving toward a reseller option, in which we would take a little off each screen you run it on, but you'll still make money by setting people up with subscriptions to run it on their machines.

You can email me at jeff@csramultimedia.com if you'd like to help us beta test.  It should be ready for a test drive by early October.

So currently I code URLs for our poster images as (free) image widgets on a (free) blank presentation so I don't need to pay for storage or licensed displays.. I tried putting these URLs into a schedule directly and I don't see anything loading at all. Do I now need to make an HTML page for each of these images and use those for the URLs instead?

Yes Justin, it seems like that's what you would have to do.

Robb, I've been emailing back and forth with Kaden about this problem on these support tickets: Rise Vision Support Ticket 41766-RE: Rise Vision Support Ticket 41117-RE: Rise Vision Support Ticket 40233. Do we really need another one?

My apologies, I didn't realize you already had a ticket open with Kaden. I let him know, and he merged those 2 together.

Northshore & Justin - We've been using Google Slides presentations embedded in an html widget for our displays. It makes it really easy to update content, and it's free hosting. (Instructions here)

The tricky part is going to be replacing the scheduling for us. I'm worried if I go through the headache of setting up hosted web pages with the embedded Slides, that RV will come back in several months and say they are removing the free URL presentations. So I would be interested if anyone runs across scheduling software as good as RV has done. Otherwise we may be looking at cron jobs on our Pi's... :/

If we were talking a couple hundred bucks a year for this really small feature we use, we'd be happy to throw some money at this. But trying to find, let alone justify, $1,500/year for such a limited function, isn't attainable.

Ok, help me understand. I just noticed this discussion about pricing changes. Somewhere in the discussion I see a comment about communication to users. I cannot find any communication in the last 6+ months about these changes.

I have Presentations with standard Image and Text widgets and I've been using those for almost 5 years now for free. Am I understanding correctly that I will have to pay for those as of Jan 2020 ?  If so, I'd be paying $22 a month for 2 Displays right now and that would become $24 a month as of Jan 2020 ?

We just received our quote today. As a school (even with an educational discount) our costs have now increased 50%!! Granted I do feel we use all the features being offered but that is a staggering increase.

Can we clarify; It is ANY Presentation (Even blank ones, which were and always have been free previously) and widgets labelled as free, are now only usable on Paid displays? Only web-linked presentations are free (IE:- website hosted elsewhere)?
