I'm David Steinberg, the I.T. specialist for Sub Zero Franchising. We currently have more than 10 stores using Amazon fire sticks running the My Rise Player app and hope to be able to have the remaining 50+ stores start using digital signage within the next year.
I personally tested several types of $100-$200 mini pcs (both Windows and Linux) for our signage and they are consistently less reliable than the Fire Sticks, in addition to being 2-4 times the price and taking longer to configure.
I have never had any store encounter performance issues with the hardware and we have been running them 24/7 for about a year.
I was very disappointed to discover that My Rise Player has been taken from the app store. I understand that it was a third party who maintained the app, but it was quite well maintained and has worked flawlessly for our menus.
With all due respect, it is a very bad idea for your company to discontinue support for android/amazon players, especially since the software already exists and you have a significant number of customers who will be negatively affected by the change.
With the upcoming pricing changes, you can expect to make $1 per month per digital menu. Once all 60+ of our stores are upgraded this translates to at very least $1200, (likely more around $1400) per month for you assuming 4-5 monitors per store as is our system. You stand to lose this revenue if support is not continued for Amazon Fire Sticks and we are forced to take our business elsewhere.
I have been very pleased with your platform and services in the past year, I do not want to have to change. Please either develop a new option for android based systems or at the very least guarantee long-term backward compatibility for the existing app. Surely $1200 per month is sufficient to pay for a large portion of the additional maintenance/development cost.
I would be happy to arrange a conference call to talk about it in depth. Please let me know.
Those in the community who use or want to use Fire Sticks please speak up and request support!
