    Hi Adrian,

I recently purchased two of the new Raspberry Pi model 4 in the 2GB and 4GB versions.

Both have Buster installed and both are working flawlessly and displaying a mix of screens including video's. I tried the Raspberry Pi in older models but was never satisfied with how they handled video but the new model 4 works extremely well.

The schedule I run has a reboot every morning and this is working well with no hiccups. Both units have been operating 24 hours a day for around a month. Internet connectivity has been reliable using both ethernet cabling and using Wi-fi.

One issue I have encountered is the units reaching their over-temperature warning threshold but fitting a small fan has resolved this on both units.

These are test units which will be placed in a remote location and after trialling these for a month I feel confident the model 4 Pi will work well for my requirements.

    Hope this helps,

    Jim Coyle

Do you know if Chromium supports GPU accelerated video decoding on Buster/RPI4 or did you do anything to solv this issue playing vieos?

    Hi Adrian,

I am no expert in these matters but did read this benchmarking review which is pretty comprehensive. It was published on 24 June 2019 and there has been updates to Buster since then.

    Neither am I.

On my RP3 B+ videos and animation runs a bit laggy, then it might look like RPI4 is the solution to that issue, if no one else have the same problem.

    Adrian,

We're aware of the issues on the Pi3 with video, which we have an article for here: https://help.risevision.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002393466-Why-am-I-seeing-poor-video-playback-on-Raspberry-Pi-

We currently have not tested the Pi4, but we will hopefully look into testing that hardware in the very near future.

    Thanks!

Sounds greate Robb! I'll try out a RPI4 as well. But It seems we've been sidetracked by poor video playback, I was wandering on wich of the following are best suited for RV Jessie, Stretch or Buster?

    I probably should mention I have RP3-/B+

    Adrian,

I was informed that we actually have started testing on the Pi4, and things are looking good! We'll update our help files to include that Pi4 once testing is completed.

On the Pi3, our recommendation has always been Jessie.

    Thanks!
