Instructions
Step 1: Supervise your Apple TV in Jamf Pro
Apple TVs purchased with your Apple Customer Number or Reseller Number (linked to Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager) may already be supervised. If they are, skip to Step 2. Otherwise, follow these steps to supervise manually:
- Connect the Apple TV to a monitor.
- Connect the Apple TV to the internet using an ethernet cable. The device should show the “Pair your remote” screen or “Hello” in multiple languages. If the Apple TV is already configured, perform a factory reset before continuing.
-
On a Mac computer connected to the same network, install and open Apple Configurator.

- From the Apple Configurator menu, open the Paired Devices window and select your Apple TV.
- If you see an “X” button, click it to remove the device before pairing again. If the device doesn’t appear, check the ethernet connection or restart the Mac.
- Click Pair…, then enter the code shown on the monitor. If successfully paired, the Apple Configurator application will show the following image:
- Double-click the Apple TV image, then click Prepare.
- In the Prepare Devices window, choose Manual Configuration. Deselect Add to Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager, and select Supervise devices and Allow devices to pair with other computers. Click Next.
- Enter your institution’s Jamf Pro MDM server URL (for example, https://your-institution.jamfcloud.com) and credentials.
- Trust any certificates from *.jamfcloud.com.
- Select or create your organization, then choose which setup screens to show (for example, Location Services, Apple ID). Click Next.
- Confirm that the Apple TV now shows as supervised in Apple Configurator and in Jamf Pro under Devices > Search Inventory.
- Complete the Apple TV setup using the remote.
Step 2: Add Rise Player to Jamf Pro
- Log in to Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager.
- Go to Apps and Books and search for Rise Vision Player.
- If you're having difficulty finding it, try applying a filter for "Type" and enter "Apple TV".
- In the Assign to drop-down, select your Jamf Pro instance.
- Enter the number of app licenses you need (this is not the same as a Rise Vision Display License). We recommend entering a number higher than expected use.
- Click Get. You will receive a confirmation email when complete.
Step 3: Install Rise Player on your devices
After licenses are added, use Jamf Pro to distribute the app:
- Log in to Jamf Pro.
- Go to Devices > Mobile Device Apps and search for Rise Vision Player.
- Select the app and click Edit.
- In the General tab, set Distribution Method to Install Automatically.
- In the Scope tab, click Add and select the devices or groups.
- In the App Configuration tab, enter the configuration dictionary:
<dict><key>udid</key><string>$UDID</string></dict>
- In the Managed Distribution tab, check Assign Content Purchased in Volume.
- Click Save.
Rise Vision Player will automatically install on the selected Apple TVs. You can then use the remote to open the app and activate your display.
Optional: Enable Single App Mode
If the Apple TV will only be used for digital signage, you can lock it into Single App Mode so Rise Vision Player always launches automatically:
- In Jamf Pro, go to Devices > Configuration Profiles.
- Create a new profile and set Distribution Method to Install Automatically.
- Under Options, select Single App Mode and configure:
- Platform: tvOS
- Lock to App: Specific Bundle ID
- Bundle ID:
com.risevision.apple-tv-player - Enable Auto-Lock
- In the Scope tab, click Edit from the lower-right of the page and then click Add. Find and choose the devices or device groups to set in Single App Mode.
- Click Save.
Rise Vision Player will now open automatically on the scoped devices.
