This article shows you how to configure your Apple TVs to receive emergency or classroom alerts using Rise Vision and Jamf Pro. Alerts that follow the CAP (Common Alerting Protocol) format can interrupt scheduled content to display urgent messages. If AirPlay is active, it will be temporarily disabled to show the alert.
Requirements
- Apple TVs enrolled in Jamf Pro
- Rise Vision Player installed and configured in Single App Mode using Jamf Pro.
- Set up guide for Jamf Pro enrollment and Single App Mode.
Step 1: Create a Device Group to Disable AirPlay
- Log in to Jamf Pro.
- Click Devices at the top left.
- Select Groups Static Device Groups and then New.
- Name the group
DisableAirPlay
(no spaces).
Step 2: Create a Configuration Profile to Restrict AirPlay
- Click Devices at the top left.
- Select Configuration Profiles, and on the right of the page select + New.
- Name the profile
DisableAirPlay
. - Scroll to Restrictions and select Functionality.
- Toggle AirPlay incoming request to “Restrict.”
- From the top click the Scope tab.
- Click + Add.
- From the Add Deployment Targets table, select Mobile Device Groups.
- Select Add and then select the
DisableAirPlay
group from Step 1 and click Done. - Click Save.
Step 3: Configure API Roles and Clients in Jamf Pro
- Go to Settings tab in the top left and select System.
- Select API Roles and Clients.
- Under API Roles, click + New on the right to create an API role and provide it a name (e.g.,
RiseVision
). - Assign the privilege Update Static Mobile Device Groups and save.
- Return to the API Roles and Clients tab, and select API Clients.
- Click + New.
- Give it a name, assign the role from bullet point 3, and set the token duration to
3600
. - Click Enable, then Save.
- Click Generate client secret and copy the Client ID and Client Secret for later use.
Step 4: Connect Jamf Pro to Rise Vision
- Log in to your account at risevision.com.
- Select Settings in the explore bar on the left.
- On the right under Apple TV MDM, toggle on Enable Jamf Pro .
- Enter your Jamf Pro Server domain into the appropriate field. It is a unique domain associated to your institution's Jamf Pro account (e.g.,
https://your-school.jamfcloud.com
). - Paste the Client ID and Client Secret that was saved from previous Step 3.
Alerts are now enabled. To use a CAP alert provider for classroom alerts, continue with this guide.
