Some devices have limited processing power and memory, which can cause Rise Player to run poorly. You may see images load slowly, videos appear choppy, or content fail to display. Devices that often run into these issues include Raspberry Pi, Airtame 2, Fire Stick, Fire TV, and Smart TV, though other devices may also be affected.
Here are several ways to ensure content will run more reliably on low power devices.
Instructions
1. Adjust setup and basic settings
- Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi whenever possible.
- Remove or close any unnecessary applications installed on the device.
- Turn off transitions between content.
- If you’re using an Airtame device, set up a daily reboot.
2. Optimize display resolution
- Open your device’s Display Settings (outside of Rise Vision).
- Check the current display resolution.
- Change the resolution to 1920x1080 (HD). This requires four times less computing power than 4K and improves stability.
3. Resize images
- Match image resolution to your display resolution, or make it smaller.
- If the image is only a small part of the screen (e.g., a corner logo), size it down appropriately (for example, 400x300). It doesn't need to be exact.
- Use any image editing tool or BulkResizePhotos.com to resize one or multiple images at once.
4. Resize videos
- Download and install Handbrake.
- Select your video file in Handbrake.
- Choose the “Fast 1080p30” preset to reduce resolution and re-encode.
- As an alternative, upload your video to YouTube and link it in a Presentation. Many streaming devices handle YouTube playback better than locally stored video.
5. Convert images from PNG to JPG
- Open the image in your preferred image editing tool.
- Select “Save As” or “Export.”
- Choose JPG as the file format.
- Save the image and upload it to Rise Vision.
6. Optimize Schedules, Playlists, and Zoned Presentations
- Combine multiple single-image Presentations into one Playlist Presentation.
- Stagger content throughout the day—show some Presentations in the morning and others in the afternoon.
- Use Zoned Presentations to group multiple Presentations together inside one layout.
Behavior Notes
- Low power devices may still struggle even after optimization. If performance remains poor, consider upgrading to a higher-performance media player.
