Symptom
Your ChromeOS device displays “Device is offline” when you start it or when trying to connect to a network.
Why This Happens
This issue usually occurs if the device can’t connect to Wi-Fi during startup, or if there’s a pending enrollment or network configuration problem.
Resolution
- Make sure your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection is working and that other devices can connect to the same network.
- Restart your ChromeOS device to refresh its network connection.
- If the device still shows “Device is offline,” turn it off completely.
- Turn it back on, and as it begins to start up, quickly press Ctrl + Alt + S on a connected keyboard inserted into the device.
- Click the time/network icon in the bottom-right corner to select the new network, enter its password, and connect
- Once your device connects to Wi-Fi, check if the “Device is offline” message disappears.
- If it remains offline, review the steps in Why is my device offline? for more detailed troubleshooting.
