If you are going to regularly stream live Youtube content to your display, follow the below setup instructions to make the process as easy as possible. If you want to show pre-recorded videos, refer to this other YouTube article.
In Preparation for the Live Stream
Add a YouTube template to your Presentation list with the channel URL:
- From the template library, select the "YouTube Full Screen". Do not select a different template that can add a YouTube component in a playlist.
-
On the left menu, click on “YouTube”. Paste the URL for your YouTube channel into the provided field. If you're unsure how to find that link:
- Go to Youtube.com and log into the account you will use for the live stream.
- Click on your profile icon in the upper-right and select "View Channel".
- The page will change and the URL at the top of the browser is for your channel. It will include an "@" symbol.
- You can now set the volume for the video using the slider in the presentation.
- Click the Publish button in the upper-right of the presentation.
The YouTube Live Presentation should be alone in its Schedule:
- The system will continuously check for when live stream is available on your YouTube channel. If other presentations are also in the schedule with the YouTube live stream presentation, this functionality will be interrupted and the live stream video won't appear correctly.
- If your subscription allows for schedules with the Override - Replace setting, then we suggest making use of that function to interrupt your display(s) default content for the duration of the live stream presentation.
Running the Live Stream
When it is time to begin the live stream, log into your YouTube channel, click the "Create" button in the upper-right corner and select "Go Live". Specify the following settings for the live stream to appear on a display:
- In the Details settings window, set "Audience view" to "No, it's not made for children" and set "License" to "Allow embedding".
- In the Visibility settings window, set visibility to "Public".
- Showing the live stream from a YouTube channel outside of your control might not work unless they have also enabled these above settings.
Once you are done with the settings specifications, click "Done". The live stream will not yet begin. A window will have a "Go Live" button to launch the stream. Click that to begin the stream.
Depending on the connection speed, it may take 10 to 30 seconds for a live stream to reach the displays. Once connected, there is a general delay of a few seconds.
Known Issues
Some YouTube accounts may experience a bug where YouTube does not save the "Allow embedding" setting. The only solution is after the live stream is launched, to immediately click the "Edit" button found on-screen and to scroll down to the "License" section and reselect "Allow embedding". If this is not done quickly enough, the displays will think the live stream cannot be embedded and will stop trying to show the content.
